I had my first 'virtual classroom visit' this past week - technically called a "synchronous observation". This was a project for the UCONN Two Summers program I'm currently enrolled in. It was such a neat opportunity to visit the P.E. class of Mr. Jeff Russell, a teacher in Wethersfield CT. There was a lot of coordination needed to make this happen; schedules, internet permissions and filters, accessible technology, etc. (a lot more than just hitting the 'chat' button on facebook!) We decided to use FaceTime on our iPads as the platform. I took a series of screen shots as Mr. Russell walked me through the mini-circuits and student participation (see below). I think using technology, specifically for chatting and communicating, is a wonderful chance to visualize what would normally be written as text. Thank you, Mr. Russell, for giving me the opportunity to see the world through one of your student's eyes!
